MADRID, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Spanish La Liga club Getafe have moved quickly to cover the departure of Jose Bordalas, who confirmed he was leaving the club on Wednesday, by naming Michel Gonzalez as his replacement.

Michel has agreed a two-year contract to return for a second spell with the club from the south of Madrid.

The former Real Madrid and Spain international midfielder was in charge at Getafe between 2009-2011, leading them to sixth place in La Liga and a place in the Copa del Rey semifinals in his first season in charge, but only avoided relegation by one point in his second campaign after which he left the club.

He has since worked with Sevilla and Malaga in Spain and with Olympiakos, Olympique de Marseille and Mexican club, Club Universidad Nacional in Mexico (UNAM), with varying degrees of success and has been out of work since leaving UNAM in the summer of 2020.

Michel is a surprise appointment with former Eibar and Huesca coaches Jose Luis Mendilibar and Jose Rojo 'Pacheta' having been touted as favorites for the job in the press. Bordalas is expected to be named as the new Valencia coach in the coming days. Enditem
