An expert in the ecosystem-based fishery and rare fish species breeding, Dr. Yuan Ting came to the Dateng Gorge water conservancy in 2020 with a team of researchers. The focus of their research is the rescue, protection, and breeding of rare fish species native to the Pearl River basin.

On May 28, Yuan's team released 100,000 fish fry they have bred in a year into the upper reaches of the Dateng Gorge water conservancy.

Aerial photo taken on May 28, 2021 shows a herd of wild Asian elephants in Eshan County, Yuxi City, southwest China's Yunnan Province. Authorities are tracking 15 wild Asian elephants in southwest China's Yunnan Province as the herd migrates northward.

The elephants are now wandering in the county of Eshan, following a long journey from the province's southmost prefecture starting from April 16. They are currently less than 50 km away from the provincial capital Kunming, the provincial forestry and grassland administration said.
