BUENOS AIRES, July 7 (Xinhua) -- River Plate have signed forward Braian Romero on a three-and-a-half year contract, as manager Marcelo Gallardo seeks a replacement for departed striker Rafael Borre.
Romero joins the Buenos Aires giants from Argentine rivals Defensa y Justicia, whom he helped to a historic Copa Sudamericana title in January.
"Braian Romero today became a new player of our club, signing a contract until December 31, 2024," River Plate said on Twitter late Wednesday.
Gallardo has been searching for a striker since it became apparent that Borre would leave the club in May. The 25-year-old Colombia international joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a four year-deal earlier this week.
Romero, 30, was the top scorer in last year's Copa Sudamericana with 10 goals in nine games as Defensa won their first ever international trophy. Enditem
