TUNIS, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia on Friday expressed firm support to Tunisian President Kais Saied amid the political crisis and showed respect to Saied's decisions, Tunisian official TAP news agency reported.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud made the remarks during his meeting with Saied in Tunisian capital Tunis.

Faisal said that he believes everything relating to Tunisia's internal affairs is a matter for the country's sovereignty, according to a statement released by Tunisian presidency.

The Saudi minister underlined his country's confidence in the ability of Tunisian leadership to overcome the crisis and offer a dignified life to Tunisian people.

Faisal also called on the international community to support Tunisia's efforts in its difficult economic and health situation.

For his part, Saied expressed his deep thanks to Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for the noble initiative shown towards Tunisia in its fight against the pandemic.

On July 25, Saied announced that he had removed Hichem Mechichi from the post of prime minister and suspended all activities of the Assembly of People's Representatives, or the parliament. The president said he will temporarily head the government until he appoints a new prime minister. Enditem
