LUANDA, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- FIBA Africa is worried about Angola's constant absense from Africa's youth basketball championships, said Ngouabi Salvador, FIBA Director General for Zone VI.

Speaking to the press here on Friday, the official said that FIBA Africa's concern results from the fact that Angola is absent from the African U-16 Basketball Championship currently taking place in Cairo.

Angola was also absent from last year's Junior AfroBasket tournament, Salvador noted, adding that the country has so far not registered for the qualifiers for next year's AfroBasket U18.

"Although in this regard, we received guarantees that Angola will participate," stressed Salvador.

"To FIBA, Angola's constant absenses in competitions are an embarrassing setback by a country that is still a reference in African basketball that is largely surpassed by countries such as Mali, Egypt, Rwanda, Gabon among others," said the official. Enditem
