Vietnam's total confirmed COVID-19 cases surpass 300,000

HANOI, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 8,800 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, including 8,788 local infections and 12 imported cases, according to its Ministry of Health.

The new infections brought the total tally to 302,101, with 6,770 deaths, the ministry said.

Most of the community cases were detected in southern localities, including 3,731 in the epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 2,513 in nearby Binh Duong province, and 443 in Dong Nai province.

As many as 115,059 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 3,751 from Tuesday, while 15.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the ministry.

As of Wednesday, Vietnam has registered a total of 298,064 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in late April, the ministry said. Enditem
