CHONGQING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Singapore-based Raffles Medical Group (RMG) on Monday put into use a 700-bed hospital in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

The Chongqing government said the Chongqing Raffles Hospital, involving an investment of 800 million yuan (116 million U.S. dollars), marks an extension of cooperation between China and Singapore.

Loo Choon Yong, RMG executive chairman, said the hospital offers both outpatient and inpatient services and boasts specialist departments including oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and dentistry.

Loo said the hospital's management and medical staff are drawn from China, Singapore and other countries including Malaysia, Australia, Canada and Britain.

The hospital aspires to offer high-quality medical services to foreigners in Chongqing as well as Chinese patients from the city and beyond, according to the RMG.

The hospital is deemed part of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, the third intergovernmental cooperation project between the two countries. The initiative covers a wide range of areas for cooperation, including financing, air transportation, logistics and information technology.
