PHNOM PENH, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian authorities on Wednesday arrested a Romanian man at the Siem Reap International Airport with 5 kilos of illicit drug, the National Police said on its website.

Olaru Narcis-Manuel was caught at 9:55 a.m. (local time) when he checked in for a KA-249 flight bound for China's Hong Kong, the National Police said.

It said the suspect concealed the drug, known as crystal methamphetamine, in four flat bags and put each of them at the bottoms of four different backpacks.

Cambodia has no death sentence for illicit drug traffickers. Under its law, someone found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drug will be imprisoned for life.

According to an Interior Ministry's anti-drug department report, the Southeast Asian country nabbed 16,232 drug suspects, including 310 foreigners in 24 nationalities, last year, seizing over 533 kilos of illicit drugs.
