Brothers, 5 and 7, killed by a python in sleep
TWO young brothers were suffocated in their sleep yesterday by a 15ft python that escaped from a pet store.
The boys, aged five and seven, were staying at a friend’s flat above the shop when they were attacked in the dark.
The snake is thought to have broken out of its enclosure and got into the room through the ventilation system.
The boys’ pal was in another room and was unhurt in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada.
Jean-Claude Savoie, who runs the Reptile Ocean store, said the victims were his best pal’s kids and often slept over.
He said: “I thought they were asleep until I saw the hole in the ceiling and everything had fallen. I turned the lights on and I’ve seen this horrific scene.
“I pinned the snake down and put him in a cage. I can’t believe this is real, it is tragic. My body is in shock, I feel like they’re my kids.”
Mountie PC Julie Rogers-Marsh said: “It’s very unusual, very tragic and difficult for everyone.”
Cops confirmed the African rock python was captured shortly after the boys’ bodies were found at 6.30am.
It is being cared for by police. Post-mortems will be carried out today.
