Roy Hodgson bans Chelsea stars from Wayne Rooney chats
CHELSEA stars have been banned from talking to Wayne Rooney about a move to the Blues while on England duty.
Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson will tell Chelsea’s Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Gary Cahill not to encourage the Manchester United striker to switch when they meet up next week.
He said: “It might be difficult to ask Wayne not to talk to the Chelsea players and maybe a bit naive.
“But I have a duty of care and will try to make it clear to everybody that this is England.”
FA bosses are sensitive to accusations that Cole and Steven Gerrard were tapped up by Chelsea stars while with England in the past.
And they are determined not to get involved in Rooney’s escalating row with United, who have already rejected two transfer bids from Chelsea.
Hodgson said: “As far as I’m concerned, this is all about England versus Scotland and, even more importantly, the World Cup qualifying matches beyond that.
Rooney, who has played only in a behind-closed-doors friendly in pre-season, asked to train with United’s reserves yesterday in a bid to get fit to face the Scots.
