DUBAI, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi the UAE Centennial 2071 scheme, which aims at turning it into "the best country in the world."
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, UAE vice president and prime minister and ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE armed forces, attended the launching ceremony.
The scheme was launched at the end of the first session of the annual meetings of the UAE government.
The crown prince and more than 450 ministers and senior government officials in the federal and local authorities took part in the meetings, state news agency WAM reported.
The centennial project aims to "raise the country's status as the best country in the world," with the best education, best economy, happiest society and best government.
Al-Maktoum called on the emirates "to work as a team to make the UAE the best in the world," while the crown prince of Abu Dhabi said the UAE would put all resources to support the scheme.
The annual meetings of the UAE government witnessed the launch of 120 initiatives covering various development sectors and four long-term national strategies, namely the UAE Soft Power Strategy, UAE Higher Education Strategy, UAE fourth Industrial Revolution Strategy, and UAE Water Security Strategy 2036.
