BERLIN, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Hertha Berlin have extended the contract of their goalkeeper Rune Jarstein, the Bundesliga club said in an official statement on Thursday.

The Norwegian international penned an undisclosed contract extension ahead of schedule. His old contract was stipulated until June 2019.

"Rune is a fantastic support of the team and proved that for years on a consistently high level. He still has great ambitions and wants to improve steadily. Young players can learn a lot from his attitude. Therefore, we are glad to have him with us between the posts in the future," Berlin's sporting director Michael Preetz said.

The 33-year-old custodian joined the "Herthaner" in January 2014 from Norwegian outfit Viking Stavanger. He made ever since 91 appearances and kept a clean sheet in 33 competitive matches.

"I am very happy at Hertha and in Berlin. The club, the environment and our supporters are great. During my spell here I have developed as a goalkeeper and personally. I would like to have some more beautiful years as a Herthaner," Jarstein told the club's official homepage.

Hertha Berlin sit currently on the 10th place of the standings. They encounter bottom side Cologne at the 30th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.
