HAIKOU, April 29 (Xinhua) -- PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), one of the "Big Four" auditors in the world, will establish the PwC University in Sanya, a coastal city in south China's Hainan Province.

The university will focus on nurturing leadership and innovation, according to PwC, which on Sunday signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the project with the municipal government of Sanya.

The company said the project will see the building of an international innovation test and demonstration base to boost innovation in Sanya and empower the construction of Hainan's pilot free trade zone (FTZ).

Amy Cai, board director of the PwC China Hainan office, said the university is also expected to attract more high-quality industries from home and abroad to settle in Sanya.

PwC China established its Hainan office in May 2018 to become the first leading international professional service firm in the island province.

Hainan was approved in April 2018 to build a pilot FTZ and explore the establishment of a free trade port with Chinese characteristics.
