BANGKOK, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's veteran MP Sompong Amornvivat on Thursday retained the post of Pheu Thai Party's top leader less than a week after he had resigned from it.

An extraordinary caucus of the country's biggest opposition party cast overwhelming votes for Sompong as the party leader, who continues to concurrently act as the opposition leader at the parliament.

Meanwhile, Prasert Chanthararuangthong was voted as the new secretary general of the Pheu Thai Party in place of Anudit Nakornthap, who earlier resigned from the post and on Thursday was picked as one of the 10 deputy leaders of the party.

Sudarat Keyuraphan, largely viewed as a prominent figure of the party and former head of its strategic committee, was nowhere on the list of the party's 24 executive board members. Enditem
