HO CHI MINH CITY, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City has decided to invest nearly 360 million U.S. dollars in building a 3.4-km bridge, replacing an overloaded ferry and helping foster tourism, the municipal authorities said Tuesday.
The four-lane Can Gio Bridge will be constructed 55 meters above Soai Rap River, linking the rural district of Can Gio with the inner city.
The new bridge, plus upgraded streets nearby and future artificial beaches, will facilitate transport and help develop tourism in Can Gio, home to one of the world's biosphere reserves.
The district's favorable conditions for tourism development include a 27-km coastline and diversified ecosystems, especially the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve, is regarded as the "green lungs" of Ho Chi Minh City. Enditem
