HELSINKI, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Canadian duo Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, 2010 Olympic champions, came first in the Short Dance competition on Friday at the World Figure Skating Championships 2017 in Helsinki. The Canadians scored 82.43 points, ahead of reigning champions France duo Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, who were ranked second with 76.89 points. American players Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue took third place with 76.53 points.
Chinese pair Wang Shiyue and Liu Xinyu, who just won gold medal in Ice Dance at the 2017 Sapporo Asian Winter Games in February, placed the 18th with 60.77 points.
In figure skating competition, the Ice Dance is divided into Short Dance and Free Dance. The free dance is the most heavily weighted in the scoring and is used as a tiebreaker.
The World Figure Skating Championships 2017 kicked off at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki on Wednesday. Later on Friday evening, the highly competitive Ladies' Free Skating are to be performed on the skating rink. Enditem
