Tunisia witnesses over 12,500 protest movements in Jan.-Nov.

TUNIS, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- From January to November 2017, the Tunisian authorities peacefully dealed with 12,595 protest movements across the country, the spokesman of the Ministry of the Interior, Khalifa Chibani, said on Friday.

"In some nocturnal protests, we were able to detect infiltration attempts by some intruders who wanted to disrupt the situation through acts of looting and vandalism," Chibani said at a press conference.

According to the spokesman, about 74,521 people prosecuted were arrested during the same period, while 5,309 cases related to looting and 174 cases related to corruption were identified.

Meanwhile, the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior launched 65,750 cases of detentions, acquisition of arms without authorization, in addition to 4,789 drug cases.
