Afghan police investigate 135 drug-related cases in 3 months

KABUL, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Counter-Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA) have investigated up to 135 drug-related cases over the last three months, as the war-hit country struggled to fight the narcotics, authorities said on Tuesday.

"The total 135 cases related to 168 suspects including nine from public service, 12 woman and two foreign citizens have been investigated from October to December all over the country," said Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) in the statement.

Over the period, narcotic consisted of over 391 kg of heroin, 136 kg of morphine, 4,515 kg of opium, 40,000 kg of hashish, 17,844 kg of chemical materials, 17,844 liters of liquid chemicals, and 4,236 liters of alcoholic drinks were found and confiscated, said the statement.

The cases were referred to the related court for investigation, said the statement, adding 42 vehicles, 3 motorcycles, and 168 different types of mobile phones and some 44 million afghani (about 638,000 U.S. dollars) and 241,000 U.S. dollars have also been confiscated from the smugglers.
