KABUL, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- One U.S. service member was killed and four others were wounded in a combat engagement in Achin district of eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar on Monday, the coalition forces said Tuesday.
"Two wounded service members are being treated at a nearby medical treatment facility and are in stable condition. The other service members have returned to duty," they said in a statement.
The statement did not provide details but militants of the Islamic State (IS) are fighting the Afghan and NATO-led coalition forces in Achin.
"Additional information will be released as it is available," the statement read.
Achin is the stronghold of IS militants and it has been the scene of clashes between security forces and IS militants since the emergence of IS there in early 2015.
