OTTAWA, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Canada increased 79,000 jobs in December 2017, pushing the jobless rate down to 5.7 percent, the lowest record since 1976, according to a report of the Statistics Canada on Friday.

December's rate brought a close to the data for 2017, which as a whole saw an increase of 423.000 jobs, said the report.

It was Canada's best year for jobs since 2002, although most of the jobs added last month were part time. 2017 as a whole witnessed 394,000 full time jobs.

All provinces in the country increased jobs last month, but more than half of the new jobs came in Alberta and Quebec, with each adding more than 26,000 jobs.
