BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- A total of 23 former officials at provincial level or above were put under investigation by Chinese prosecution authorities in 2017, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Wednesday.

Since October 2014, 34 of the 100 fugitives who are wanted by China and are the subject of an Interpol red notice have either been captured or persuaded to turn themselves in, the SPP said.

China has cooperated with a number of countries to hunt down fugitives suspected of involvement in corruption. Many of the fugitives were former government officials or employees of state-owned enterprises.

Since 2017, 1,300 fugitives have returned to China, including 347 Party members and state functionaries, as well as 14 who are Interpol red notice suspects.
