UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- UN General Assembly President Miroslav Lajcak on Friday summarized the achievements made in the four months of his presidency since last September, including more than 250 resolutions adopted in the UN.
Addressing a General Assembly meeting, Lajcak said that "we are nearly four months into the 72nd Session of the General Assembly. And I believe we can say we have achieved a lot in this time."
"We have adopted over 250 resolutions," and "We have taken concrete action on proposals to reform the United Nations," he added.
The General Assembly president also highlighted some new initiatives already launched, noting that "one of my own contributions was the start of a series of Morning Dialogues, which bring permanent representatives together in a new, interactive format."
"We have adopted a new regular budget for 2018-2019 period," he continued.
Concluding the main part of its 72nd session, the UN General Assembly on Dec. 24 last year took a number of key actions, including approving a nearly 5.4-billion-U.S. dollar program budget for the Organization for the biennium 2018-2019.
He also stressed that "we have more than eight months of work ahead of us, in the resumed part of the session. We need to see these eight months as an opportunity, as a chance to ensure that, when we get to September 2018, we will have even more achievements to point to."
Slovak diplomat Lajcak was elected last May as president of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. He replaced Peter Thomson of Fiji when the 72nd Assembly Session convened in September in 2017, beginning his one-year term.
