JAKARTA, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Loose or corroded joints may be the main reason of the sudden collapse of a middle floor at the Indonesian Stock Exchange building Monday, an initial report by the public works ministry has released.
Over 70 people were injured in the incident, most of which are university students from Palembang city taking a study tour of the stock exchange.
The CCTV footage showed a walkway collapsed when a group of students passed by, burying some in the debris.
According to the report, the suspended walkway collapse might be caused by the break-away of several cables and bolts from the ceiling due to a "concentration of weight" in one spot, where nearly 100 students gathered.
The report also said the walkway was a part of the original structure which was built in the late 1990s, and hasn't been maintained so far.
The public works ministry said that further investigation is underway for the final result.
Jakarta police have ruled out a bomb attack as the cause of the collapse.
