Lao, Cambodian officials meet on security issues

VIENTIANE, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- An annual bilateral meeting between the Ministry of Public Security of Laos and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia was held Wednesday in Lao capital Vientiane.

The meeting was co-chaired by Somkeo Silavong, Minister of Public Security of Laos and Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Cambodia.

Both sides informed each other about progress in the implementation of the memorandum of understanding the two ministries signed in 2017 and their cooperation on keeping peace and order along the common border of the two countries, drug inspection and control efforts, anti-human trafficking efforts, immigration facilitation and visit exchange, Lao News Agency (KPL) reported on Wednesday.

Both sides noted that they were quite satisfied with the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on drug inspection and control cooperation by relevant sectors of the two countries at both central and provincial levels, said the Lao state-run news agency.

Provincial and district drug suppression officers have maintained their exchange of information and strengthened their cooperation on the prevention and suppression of drug trafficking along the common border.

They noted that their cooperation has contributed to enhancing the relationship between the two neighboring countries as well as to the keeping of peace and order along the common border.

The two ministers also signed a memorandum of understanding on the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Laos and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia for 2018.
