LONDON, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Mark Allen of Northern Ireland beat Englishman Kyren Wilson 10-7 in the final of the Masters snooker tournament to win the most important title of his career on Sunday.

The 31-year-old came back after being 4-3 down to win seven of the last 10 frames at Alexandra Palace, before lifting the trophy and receiving career-high check of 200,000 GBP.

26-year old Wilson, who is competing in only his second Masters, was in tears and too emotional to accept the defeat.

World number eight Allen proved too strong during the week, knocking out Ronnie O'Sullivan and John Higgins to reach the final. It was his 10th career title and first since the 2016 Players Championship.

"It is surreal," said Allen. "It has been a long time coming, I was never sure it would come; I have knocked on the door for so long," Allen said.

"What a competitor Kyren Wilson is, not just a competitor, he is the nicest guy you can meet and he will have many more days like this. I know what it is like to lose a major; I was in that seat for the UK Championship (in 2011), losing to Judd Trump. Kyren will be in finals for years to come," Allen said.

The Northern Irishman also said that hopefully the win "is a step to bigger things" and he hopes "there are more triple crown [titles] to come".
