TBILISI, Jan.23(Xinhua) -- The first batch of U.S. anti-tank Javelin missiles have already arrived in Georgia and been stored in a "safe place,"Georgian Defense Minister Levan Izoria said here Tuesday.

Speaking to the press after meeting with U.S. Ambassador Ian Kelly, Izoria said training will begin soon for Georgian soldiers for them to learn to operate the systems.

Izoria told the parliament in early December that the U.S. Congress agreed to sell the Javelin man-portable anti-tank system to Georgia.

Local media said that Georgia had long sought to purchase the Javelin missiles from the United States, and estimated that the arms deal cost the country about 75 million U.S. dollars.
