SHENYANG, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- BMW Brilliance Automotive Tuesday saw its 2 millionth car roll off the production line in Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province.

The car is the company's plug-in hybrid new-energy model.

In 2011, its first new-energy car made its debut. The company introduced five new-energy car models in the next five years.

"BMW Brilliance focused heavily on the transformation toward the development of new-energy vehicles," said Robert Engelhorn, senior vice president of technology and manufacturing of the company.

In July 2017, the company put into operation a new R&D center in Shenyang, by far the BMW Group's largest auto R&D hub outside Germany.

"BMW Brilliance is confident in its long-term development on the Chinese market," said Engelhorn.

Founded in Shenyang in 2003, BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. is a joint venture of BMW Group and Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd. The venture has invested more than 52 billion yuan (about 8 billion U.S. dollars) in the Shenyang assembly line since 2009.
