ISLAMABAD, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Wednesday showed serious concerns about the recent missile attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels, targeting the Saudi city of Khamis Mushait in Asir province.

Saudi Arabia's air force had downed the ballistic missile on Feb. 5, according to Saudi officials.

"We are deeply concerned over media reports of a missile attack by Houthi militia towards Khamis Mushait on Feb. 5. The timely interception by Saudi Air Defense saved the civilian populated city from grave consequences," the Pakistani foreign ministry said in a statement.

"Such attacks targeting the unarmed civilian population are a violation of international law and condemnable," the statement said.

It further said Pakistan denounces the repeated missile attacks on Saudi territory by Houthi militia, adding these attacks pose a threat to the security of the Kingdom and the Holy Places.

"Pakistan reiterates its solidarity with the Government and people of the Saudi Arabia and renews its commitment to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as to protect its Holy Places," the foreign ministry said.
