BERLIN, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The world economic climate has improved considerably in the first quarter of the year, German economic research institute Ifo reported on Wednesday.

The results of Ifo World Economic Survey showed that the indicator for the world economy rose from 17.1 points in the last quarter of 2017 to 26.0 points in Q1 of 2018, soaring to its highest level since autumn 2007.

The report noted that the economic climate improved in all regions of the world.

"The worldwide upswing consolidated in the first quarter," Ifo President Clemens Fuest said.

"Experts assessed the current economic situation far more positively than last quarter. Their economic expectations also showed an exceptional improvement," he added.

In addition, surveyed experts also expected that short and long-term interest rates will rise in the next six months, and that world trade is to pick up significantly.

Ifo has conducted a quarterly survey in many countries on business cycle developments and other economic factors since 1981. The results of this survey are based on responses of more than 1,000 experts from over 100 countries and regions.
