Indonesian bridge squad to train offshore ahead of Asian Games

JAKARTA, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) --- Players grouped in the Indonesian bridge team will take part in several tryout matches in Europe and India in a bid to win at least 2 gold medals the Asian Games this year.

A total of 38 Indonesian athletes and officials departed for Monaco on Wednesday to take part in the "European Winter Games," in the country, the chairman of the Indonesian bridge association Eka Wahyu Kasih disclosed.

"The national bridge team has completed general practice sessions, next it moves to to take part in several phases of tryouts in Europe," he said on Wedesday night.

After taking part in the tournament in Monaco, the Indonesian bridge team is scheduled to participate in the Asia Cup tournament in India from June 4-10, said Wahyu.

From June 19-July 1, the team will compete in the International Bridge Festival in Bulgaria, he added.

From there, the chairman said that team is scheduled to hold a try out match in Hong Kong from July 17-21.

Wahyu said that the participants from China are considered to be the strongest opponents in the Asian Games.

The 18th Asian Games are scheduled to be held in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and in Palembang city, the provincial capital of South Sumatra province from August 18 to September 2.
