Sweden tops men's curling at PyeongChang Games

PYEONGCHANG, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Sweden topped the men's curling round-robin with five straight wins after beating Japan in the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games here on Sunday evening.

The Swedish team, made of 2017 World Championship silver medalists, has been on fire and snatched a lopsided 11-4 victory.

Also on Sunday evening, Denmark edged South Korea 9-8, Italy lost to Britain 7-6, and Norway defeated the United States 8-5.

Canada and Switzerland shared the second place on four wins and two losses, followed by Japan on three wins and two losses, while Britain, Italy, Norway and the United States were joint fifth with a 2-3 record.

Ten teams are competing in the men's curling tournament, with the top four finishers from the round-robin to qualify for the semifinals.

In the women's event, Sweden led the round-robin with five straight wins after beating Britain 8-6 on Sunday afternoon.

Japan and South Korea were joint second on a 4-1 record, followed by China and Britain on 3-3.
