JERUSALEM, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Israel's unemployment rate recorded lowest level since the 1970s at 3.7 percent in January, the country's Central Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.

The number of unemployed slipped 0.3 percentage point from December, the bureau said in its monthly report.

Meanwhile, full-time employment fell 0.6 percent from December, according to the report.

The new figures continue a years-long decrease in unemployment rates in Israel, which comes along with a sharp cut down in the number of people eligible for unemployment benefits.

According to the finance ministry, the recent decrease is largely explained by new programs to return people who receive income support benefits to the labor market.
