BEIRUT, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Lebanon Walid al-Yaacoub has been replaced after taking office for less than three months, the Daily Star reported on its website Sunday.

"Former Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Lebanon Walid al-Bukhari will arrive in Beirut tonight and head the Saudi diplomatic team in Lebanon," a political source was quoted as saying.

The source said that Yaacoub would no longer be the ambassador to Lebanon, and that he had already left for Riyadh.

Yaacoub was appointed as the ambassador last September during Thamer al-Sabhan's term as Saudi's Minister of State for Gulf Affairs. Yaacoub's credentials were later presented to Lebanese President Michel Aoun in January.

Yaacoub had worked in the Saudi embassy in Beirut from 2010 to 2014 before moving to his country's embassy in Paris, where he worked until 2017.

Bukhari had served as acting head of mission until his predecessor Ali Awad Asiri's term ended in August 2016.
