China's Huawei provides ICT training program for Indonesian students

JAKARTA, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian branch of China's technology giant Huawei signed here Thursday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) document of its training program for students of Indonesian vocational schools.

The signing was conducted by Huawei Indonesia CEO Liu Haosheng and representatives of 12 vocational schools in the country, witnessed by Charge D'Affaires of Chinese Embassy Sun Weide, Communications and Information (Kominfo) Minister Rudiantara and senior officials of manpower and national education ministries here.

Speaking prior to the signing, Liu said the Huawei's information and communications technology (ICT) training program, called SmartGen, would affect at least 1,000 Indonesian vocational school students involved in the program activities.

The SmartGen program for Indonesian vocational school students will be conducted through in-class tutoring and in the field, enabling them to directly practice the knowledge they obtain in class with actual situation in the field.

Huawei initiated the SmartGen IT training program in Indonesia by embracing seven universities last year for the same purposes.

Meanwhile, conveying greetings of Chinese Ambassador Xiao Qian upon the Huawei's training program, Sun Weide expected that students taking part in the program would be able to hone themselves up in IT sector that would eventually support their family and the country in developing the economy.

Kominfo Minister Rudiantara praised the program, saying it would greatly help the nation in creating IT talents which are greatly needed due to government's current digital economy drive.

He pledged that the program would be fully supported by government's related agencies during the its activities that would run until September.
