KUWAIT CITY, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait delivered 30 tons of food to displaced Iraqis in Sulaymaniyah in North Iraq on Sunday, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) said.

More than 1,000 food packages were distributed to 500 families under the supervision of Kuwait's General Consulate, funded by Kuwait Relief Association and Secretary-General of Awqaf, Ismael Abdulaziz, head of Dohuk office at Barzani Charitable Society, was quoted as saying.

Abdulaziz expressed his thanks to Kuwait and its organizations for its various humanitarian assistance to the displaced and the poor as well as people with special needs.

"In light of the difficult economic conditions that the Kurdistan region is experiencing, such aid helps to alleviate suffering of the displaced people, and support local government," he noted.

In 2018, Kuwait started a rescue plan to help the displaced people of Kurdistan by delivering more than 40,000 food parcels to people returning to their homes in Mosul, and people of Erbil, Dohuk, Sulaymaniyah and Halabja in Iraq, KUNA said.
