LIMA, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Police officers in Peru seized on Thursday a load of around 800 kg of cocaine in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, near Lima's historical center, authorities announced.

The head of the Peruvian National Police's Anti-Drugs Directorate, General Hector Loayza, said that the drugs had been seized in a targeted operation and were valued at around 50 million U.S. dollars.

The drugs were packed in small quantities, camouflaged by blocks of recycled paper, with the logo of a macaw parrot stamped onto the outside, which the police believe they belong to the company tasked with moving the drugs.

The raid took place in a warehouse after intelligence work by a special unit, named Orion, which had been pursuing this drugs group for the last eight months.

According to Loayza, preliminary findings indicate that the drugs were going to be sent to Europe by sea.

Loayza concluded by saying that nine suspects were arrested during the raid, including several Colombians.
