MADRID, April 6 (Xinhua) -- One of nine German cyclists injured in a road accident on the Spanish island of Mallorca on Thursday has died, Spanish General Traffic Director Gregorio Serrano said Friday.

The cyclist died late Thursday night, about 14 hours after being evacuated to a hospital in the town of Manacor.

A group of 15 cyclists collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle on the MA-15 road close to the town of Capdepera on Thursday. The vehicle was driven by a 28-year-old local woman.

Two other cyclists were "seriously" injured and six others suffered "slight" injuries, the official said.

The injured were all Germans aged between 30 to 40, who had been on holiday in Mallorca before planning to return to Germany on Saturday.

The accident happened on a "straight stretch of road and with good visibility," said the official.

The woman has been charged with causing injuries due to "gross negligence" and with crimes against public safety, the Spanish Civil Guard said.

In 2017, over 40 cyclists were killed in road accidents in Spain, showed official statistics released in January.
