Chinese shares close lower Friday

BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed slightly lower Friday, dampened largely by sectors including gold and intellectual property protection.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed down 0.66 percent at 3,159.05 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.37 percent lower at 10,687.02 points.

Combined turnover on the two bourses shrank to 396.4 billion yuan (63 billion U.S. dollars) from 428.6 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Anyuan Coal Industry Group Co. Ltd. rose 9.85 percent, almost by the daily limit, to 2.9 yuan per share.

Shares in the semiconductor industry also performed well, with Fujian Acetron New Materials Co., Ltd. rising by the daily limit of 10 percent.

During the trading day, the ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.13 percent to close at 1,824.59 points.
