Canadian stock market hits 12-day high

TORONTO, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock index rose to a 12-day high Tuesday due to gains in technology and energy shares.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index rose 52.92 points, or 0.35 percent, to close the day at 15,353.30.

Six of the index's 10 main groups were up.

The technology group towered over all subgroups. Shopify's stock price jumped 11.22 Canadian dollars, or 7.6 percent, to 158 Canadian dollars, while BlackBerry rose 30 cents, or 2.2 percent, to 13.52 Canadian dollars.

The materials group was also up. First Quantum Minerals climbed 72 cents, or 4.3 percent, to 17.45 Canadian dollars, while Teck Resources added 16 cents to 33.01 Canadian dollars.

The energy group also rose, as Suncor rose 42 cents to 47.58 Canadian dollars.

The largest decliner was Aphria Inc, down 83 cents, or 6.8 percent to 11.41 Canadian dollars while Aurora Cannabis lost 5.5 percent to 8.44 Canadian dollars.

Among telecoms group, BCE Inc. lost 36 cents to 53.82 Canadian dollars while Rogers fell 44 cents to 56.79 Canadian dollars.
