BUENOS AIRES, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Argentina and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in a bid to be fully fit for the World Cup in Russia.

The 29-year-old has not started a game since Manchester City's 1-0 victory over Chelsea on March 4.

"Recovering from an arthroscopy on my knee. Fully motivated to get back soon to the field," Aguero wrote on Twitter.

The former Atletico Madrid man featured as a substitute in the derby defeat to Manchester United on April 7 and again made an appearance off the bench against Liverpool in the Champions League three days later.

But he missed City's 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday after the injury flared up again.

Argentina will begin their World Cup campaign against Iceland at Spartak Stadium in Moscow on June 16.
