WUHAN, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Fanan Lake Wetland International Marathon is set to be held on April 21 in Central China's Qianjiang.

Organizers will be introducing new technology to help improve the experience for spectators and for the athletes taking part.

A smartwatch will be issued to competitors to monitor runners' blood pressure and heart rate but also help emergency services locate any athletes who need assistance.

If need be, the athletes can press a button on the watch and receive help.

Spectators can login on the internet and input the number of the runner on the system and see them on one of the 313 high definition cameras installed on the route.

The Qianjiang marathon is a first for the central Chinese city. It is part of a series of marathon events dubbed "Running China."
