KAMPALA, May 16 (Xinhua) -- The head coach of top Egyptian side Al Ahly SC, has stepped down after his team lost 2-0 to Uganda's KCCA FC in a CAF Champions League match on Tuesday.

Hossam El-Badry told Xinhua late on Tuesday after the game in Kampala that he has decided to leave the team.

He did not give reasons as to why he resigned, noting that the management of the club will issue a statement.

On Monday El-Badry predicted his team would beat KCCA FC and garner maximum points to get their campaign back on track after settling for a goalless draw against Esperance (Tunisia) in the opening game.

According to Al Ahly's website, the management accepted El-Badry's resignation and will hold a meeting to discuss the way forward. It is expected that assistant coach Ahmed Ayoub will take charge of Al Ahly's remaining game in the Egyptian Premier League.

The eight-time African champions Al Ahly are now bottom of Group A with one point, while Esperance are top with four points and KCCA FC second on three points.
