RIO DE JANEIRO, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil international midfielder Everton Ribeiro struck two second-half goals as Rio de Janeiro giants Flamengo secured their passage to the Copa Libertadores knockout phase with a 2-0 victory over Ecuador's Emelec on Wednesday.

Ribeiro lashed a powerful 48th-minute shot into the top corner before curling in a stoppage-time free-kick in front of a near-capacity crowd at the Maracana stadium.

The result means Flamengo now have nine points from five matches, guaranteeing them a berth in the last 16 with one group match remaining. Emelec are last in Group D with just one point.

Six-time champions Boca Juniors likewise clinched a berth in the next phase with a 5-0 rout of Alianza Lima in Buenos Aires.

Ramon Abila bagged a brace while Carlos Tevez and Colombian pair Edwin Cardona and Frank Fabra were also on target for the hosts at their Bombonera stadium.

Boca finished second in Group H with nine points, seven points behind Brazil's Palmeiras, who beat Junior of Colombia 3-1 in Wednesday's only other match.
