Mongolian, Russian FMs hold talks on ties

ULAN BATOR, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Mongolian Foreign Minister Damdin Tsogtbaatar held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Wednesday on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest, the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

The two foreign ministers discussed ways to further expand bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, trade and investment fields.

The foreign ministers also expressed that Mongolian Prime Minister Ukhnaa Khurelsukh's upcoming visit to Russia is very important to further expand bilateral cooperation in trade, economy and investment.

The Mongolian side said that Mongolia welcomes Russian investment, especially in energy and infrastructure sectors.

Mongolia and Russia agreed to celebrate 80th anniversary of the victory of the battle of Khalkhin Gol in 2019.

The parties also agreed to enhance their cooperation within the framework of international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

In addition, both sides exchanged views on intensifying the construction of the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor, and Mongolia's interest in establishing a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, the ministry said in a statement.
