TIANJIN, May 17 (Xinhua) -- China Tower Co., a state-owned company that runs the country's telecom towers, said the rate of tower sharing has been greatly boosted in the information and telecommunications infrastructure.

In the last three years, the company has renovated and built 1.46 million towers, and helped establish the world's largest 4G network, the company said on the sidelines of the second World Intelligence Congress in north China's Tianjin Municipality.

The rate of sharing was raised from 14.3 percent to 70.4 percent in the last three years, which is equivalent to reducing the building of 603,000 towers, and saved investment of 107 billion yuan (about 17 billion U.S. dollars).

China Tower, which has 1.87 million towers, is the world's largest supplier of telecom tower infrastructure service. Growth in the number of towers in China's western regions, where infrastructure had been weak, is particularly high, it said.
