KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Six militants including a key commander Mullah Karim Mukhlis were killed after aircrafts struck a Taliban hideout in Imam Sahib district of Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province on Wednesday, provincial government spokesman Sunatullah Timuri said.

"Acting upon intelligence report, the security forces aircrafts targeted a Taliban hideout in Kunjak area of Imam Sahib district early Wednesday, killing six rebels including notorious commander Mullah Karim Mukhlis on the spot," Timuri told Xinhua.

Describing Mullah Karim Mukhlis as a key commander in the troubled Kunduz, the official said that the physical elimination of the commander would demoralize Taliban insurgents in the province to lose more grounds.

Taliban militants are yet to make comment on the report.
