JERUSALEM, May 24 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli soldier has been "critically injured" in clashes following a night raid in the West Bank, the Israeli army said on Thursday.

The incident took place at the Am'ari Refugee Camp, east of Ramallah city, on Thursday before dawn. The military cleared it for publication hours later to notify the soldier's family.

A military spokesperson said that the soldier, whose name was not identified, was "critically" injured by a cinder block or a large rock that was thrown at troops of the Duvdevan Unit, an Israeli special operation force. The troops were on a mission to arrest "terror suspects," the spokesperson said.

Riots took place during the raid, with Palestinians hurling objects at the force, according to the spokesperson.

The soldier was evacuated to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

The incident was the latest in a wave of violence triggered by the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem last week. Dozens of Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire during protests near the Gaza-Israel fence.
