TEHRAN, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday dismissed new allegations by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita as "false and fantasy."

In a Thursday statement, Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said the Moroccan officials' insistence on repeating false claims as a pretext to cut diplomatic relations with Iran and raising baseless allegations is merely aimed at appeasing third parties.

In a recent interview with U.S. Fox News TV channel, Moroccan foreign minister warned against "the threat of Iran and its ally (Lebanese) Hezbollah to regional security."

Bourita said "I think it is clear that the interference of Iran in the internal affairs of the Arab and Islamic countries won't stop in Middle East and in the (Persian) Gulf countries."

"The Moroccan foreign minister knows very well that the allegations are totally wrong and based on fantasies written by those who make such provocative moves," Qasemi said without elaboration.

Such allegations only serve "their illegitimate interests which are at odds with the actual interests of the Moroccan people," he said.

Repeating these allegations and insisting on them are futile efforts and will eventually harm Islamic countries, he added.

On May 1, Morocco decided to sever relationships with Iran over its backing to Western Sahara's separatist movement the Polisario Front, the Moroccan Bourita said.

Bourita said Morocco will expel the Iranian ambassador in Rabat and will close its embassy in Tehran.

Iran's Foreign Ministry categorically denied Morocco's allegations.
