WASHINGTON, May 26 (Xinhua) -- China's star sprinter Su Bingtian saw his effort to renew his own 100-meter national record come in vain once again as a 2.4-meter per second tailwind ruined his plan on Saturday at the third leg of the 2018 IAAF Diamond League in Eugene, United States.
The 28-year-old Su clocked 9.90 seconds to finish fourth in the men's 100m event, but his effort could not be ratified as a valid record in order to renew his 9.99 national record.
Defending champion Ronnie Baker of U.S. sprinted to a winning mark of 9.78s to secure his back-to-back title in Eugene.
World championships runner-up Christian Coleman, another American sprinter, clocked 9.84s to finish second in what was his 100m debut of the season, followed by Britain's Reece Prescod in 9.88s.
Eugene could be seen as a lucky place for Su, who set the national record of 9.99 here back in 2015. He clocked 9.92s in Eugene last year but the feat was also assisted by a 2.4 m/s tailwind.
