JAKARTA, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian skateboard athletes are optimistic about their chances to secure medals in the upcoming Asian Games, a coach said here on Thursday.

Head coach Jo Jaya Charles Kusuma based the statement on the progress made by the athletes during training.

"Their progress is extraordinary. Their drive to achieve during the Asian Games has improved significantly," he said.

A total of 8 athletes have completed training in the United States, he said.

Next month, the number of the athletes will be reduced to 6, and then later to 4, he added.

The result of the selection would be announced in June, the coach said.

The Indonesian skate boarding association has set a target of 3 gold medals in rollersports at the Games this year, two of which are expected to be obtained from skateboarding and the rest from rollerskating.

Rollersport is to be contested in the Jakabaring Sport city in Palembang, and in the Saparua Sport Stadium in Bangdu.

The 18th Asian Games are scheduled to be played in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and in Palembang, the provincial capital of South Sumatra province from August 18 to September 2.
